Shadow of the Vale

Prelude
4e Newbie GM Campaign

The future members of the party can be found in or around Fallcrest for the past two years. Fallcrest is located within Nentir Vale. Information on both these locations, as well as the current atmosphere of the vale, can be found under the wiki. I’ll assume the party knows most of the information found in the wiki if they pool their resources.

The game is primarily hack and slash, so I’m not putting much effort into the session summaries.

Session 1

Thirteen felt drawn to the High Septarch Tower. Whatever it was that led him to the tower also compelled him to touch it. As he did he felt his docent pulse. Three others throughout the town of Fallcrest felt this pulse. They didn’t know what it was, but somehow knew it came from the tower. Braks, Rain and James approached the tower and Thirteen. They all seemed confused but couldn’t deny the curiosity of the situation and decided to investigate it further.

Eventually they were allowed to see the mage of the tower. Nimozaran the Green, High Septarch of Fallcrest, had no real information about the incident outside. But he offers to research it if they investigate the towns kobold problem. He believes that something more terrible and dangerous is behind the local kobold attacks. They seem too organized and too aggressive, compared to other kobolds the old wizard has dealt with in the past. He asks the party if they are willing to enter the creature’s lair to discover the secret of Kobold Hall.

The party accepts and head to Kobold Hall. They fight through the old manor and discover a hidden cave concealing a young white dragon. Unfortunately the dragon escaped through an underwater river, but the party successfully plundered the cave. The party finds a letter written in draconic. It is an offer of alliance from a goblin warlord who wishes to unite the monsters in the area against the people of Fallcrest. It’s signed Irontooth.

Upon return to Nimozaran, he thanks the party for the news of the dragon. After a day’s research he suspects that the party may have encountered a dragon named Szartharrax. As a reward he offers the use of his tower’s teleportation circle. He informs the party that he has no news of their strange occurrence, but the Lord Warden seeks an audience with the party.

Session 2

The Lord Warden sends the party to search for his missing friend, Douven Staul. On their way to Winterhaven, the party defeats a kobold ambush. Once they arrive, they head to the inn and discover that Winterhaven has a kobold problem as well. A woman known as Old Sara is also missing and a shopkeep named Bairwin Wildarson could be involved with that. Rond Kelfem, captain of the Winterhaven Regulars, requires concrete evidence before he can take any real action against Bairwin. Without anything concrete, the party heads out to handle the kobold problem.

The party arrives at a kobold hideout hidden behind a waterfall. As soon as they arrive, kobolds begin to swarm at them from behind trees and rocks. It’s a long hard fight that drew them into the lair. Inside the party almost faltered, but eventually scrapped their way to victory. After slaying the kobold leader, a goblin named Irontooth, they discovered two jarring messages on his person. One was written with charcoal on torn cloth and simply read, “They are coming! Prepare!” The other read, “Greetings Mighty Irontooth, We have received your human slaves. Good work, brother. Krand is proud of your work. -Tra’ak
